Bikers everywhere will be kick-starting their engines on Sunday 13th July and heading for the fifth annual Motorcycle Ride-In Day at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu.

Jump on your bike and take a trip through the stunning New Forest to Beaulieu. Display your bike in the attraction’s picturesque parkland, meet other like-minded enthusiasts, and enjoy the Beaulieu attraction, all for a fantastic on-the-day price of £10 rider and bike, £15 with pillion, less if purchased in advance.

Watch amazing tricks and stunts in performances from 3 times British Trials Champion, Steve Colley, as well as the incredible Solent Eagles, children’s motorcycle display team.

Don’t miss the National Motor Museum’s new permanent display, The Motorcycle Story, a journey through motorcycling history with machines displayed in their historical and cultural context, from some of the earliest examples of motorcycles to the latest racing machines. The display is accompanied by artefacts including clothing worn and trophies won by sporting greats in displays which cover varied racing disciplines as well as road safety, British ‘Mods and Rockers’ youth culture of the 1950s and 60s and the Ace Café scene.

Check out the display’s Motorcycling Icons Wall of Fame, a gallery featuring the top twenty riders, as voted for by the public in a recent poll. Has someone been missed, is your favourite there? If not - make sure you vote for the person you would like to see on the wall.

Browse a number of trade stands selling accessories, clothing, parts and all the latest biking gadgets. There will also be refreshments available all day from the Brabazon Restaurant and various catering units in the parkland.

As always, visitors to Beaulieu will be asked to vote for their favourite bike in the People’s Choice Awards and in the afternoon, the winner will be presented with a coveted Beaulieu Trophy.

People's Choice Winner - Nigel Herring with Stuart Macey

In stark contrast to conditions last year when weeks of heavy rain had put the event in doubt, participants in this year’s Motorcycle Ride-In were assured of clear skies and unbroken sunshine. Fortunately a heat wave and temperatures in the high 80s didn’t deter riders from zipping up their leathers and donning their helmets for a ride through the New Forest en route to Beaulieu to park up and become part of a fantastic display in the grounds of the National Motor Museum.

Over 1,300 bikes took part in the public ride-in and 1,800 bikers were able to enjoy a great day out, meeting other biking enthusiasts and viewing the hundreds of motorbikes of all makes and models on display, from classics to modern and custom. A number of trade stands were selling accessories and clothing.

Beaulieu’s Events Manager Judith Maddox said:”It was a perfect day for bikers to ride into Beaulieu. We know that they like to show off their bikes and this event offers an opportunity to be part of the display and enjoy all of the Beaulieu attraction at the same time.“

In the Beaulieu arena the crowds were wowed by stunt shows from the fearless UK FMX stunt team. The audience could experience the thrill of biking ‘athletes’ as they performed acrobatic stunts at heights up to 40 feet in the air. 

Visitors were invited to vote for their favourite bike in the ‘People’s Choice’ award and this went to Nigel Herring from Didcot, Oxfordshire, with his Suzuki Hayabusa.  Nigel has had his bike from nearly new and spent thirteen years customising it to the gleaming machine it now is, complete with eye catching sparkling emerald green paintwork.

Nigel was presented with a Beaulieu Trophy by UK FMX stunt rider Stuart Macey.

The Austin 7 - Small But Dependable - And Ready To Go Anywhere!

The annual National Austin 7 Rally, organised by the 750 Motor Club, takes place on Sunday 7th July on the Beaulieu Estate in Hampshire. Enthusiastic owners and their pre-war Austin 7s will be heading in their hundreds for the picturesque venue which provides an ideal day out for all the family as the rally entry ticket also gives access to Lord Montagu’s historic Palace House and Gardens and The National Motor Museum.

Austin 7s may be small but what they lack in size they make up for in ‘dependability’ – as evidenced by the adventures they, and their owners, get up to. The accompanying picture is a cross-section of English Austin 7s on a rally in northern France as guests of the Tacot Club Calaisen. This club is twinned with the North Hertfordshire Centre of the 750 Motor Club and will be at Beaulieu displaying a fascinating variety of their Gallic vehicles.

Further afield an intrepid group of three Austin 7s is currently making its way from Buenos Aires to New York – an epic 11,000 mile journey across twelve countries and two continents. The Austin 7 was the first truly mass-produced British car and it changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of ordinary people by giving them the opportunity to buy an affordable motor car for the first time. Beaulieu visitors can vote for their favourite vehicle on display, with the winner receiving a People’s Choice special edition Beaulieu Trophy, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Beaulieu attraction. The winning vehicle will lead a cavalcade of 20 vehicles selected from all Simply Bond participants through the grounds of the National Motor Museum.

Visitors can also see BOND IN MOTION on show in the National Motor Museum until December 2012. The largest exhibition of Bond vehicles staged anywhere in the world, it showcases 50 genuine vehicles from the Bond films as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the James Bond films. Some of the best-loved and most iconic vehicles are on display, including ‘Wet Nellie’ the Lotus Esprit S1 from The Spy Who Loved Me and the Casino Royale Aston Martin DBS stunt car which rolled seven and three quarter turns to claim a Guinness World Record. Entry into the Beaulieu parkland with your Bond vehicle is from 9.30am when refreshments will be available in the Brabazon Restaurant.

All other visitors who wish to see the event, but not participate in a Bond-featured vehicle, should enter Beaulieu from 10am, via the Main Reception at normal attraction admission prices.
