Wallace And Gromit Anti-Pesto Van Is The Latest Star To Join Beaulieu’s On Screen Cars Exhibition

Wallace & Gromit Anti-Pesto Van,
Beaulieu's On Screen Cars
The Wallace and Gromit Anti-Pesto Van is the latest exhibit to arrive in Beaulieu’s On Screen Cars display. A plasticine version of this Austin A35 van was created for the film Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Nick Park, creator of the Wallace and Gromit animations, used to own an A35 and thought it was the ideal model to use in the film because “the van needed to be big enough to transport Wallace’s invention, the Bunvac 2000, while slick enough to go on high-speed chases.”

In the film, Tottington Hall’s Giant Vegetable Competition is fast approaching and Wallace and Gromit are running a vegetable security and humane pest control business, Anti-Pesto. In order to cope with the increasing amount of captured rabbits Wallace invents a brainwashing machine, but a mistake during the operation creates a ‘Were-Rabbit’, a giant rabbit which eats vegetables of any size. It’s down to Wallace and Gromit to capture the rampaging beast before the competition!

The Anti-Pesto Van, which has been loaned to Beaulieu following a call-out for new vehicles for the exhibition, joins a host of other star vehicles.

The ‘flying’ Ford Anglia on display was used during the making of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In the film, the enchanted flying car is stolen a number of times by Ron Weasley, on one occasion to rescue his friend Harry Potter from the Dursleys’ house, and on another to return to Hogwarts after the gate to Platform 9¾ is sealed by house elf Dobby.

Sharing the spotlight with the Anglia is TV favourite, Mr Bean’s lime green mini. This particular car was used in the character's third series and made its first television appearance on 1st January 1991.

Another TV favourite on display is Del Boy’s beloved Trotter Van. Possibly the nation's most famous three-wheel vehicle, this Regal van featured in the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses. It was the sole transport for the Trotter family of Del, Rodney, Grandad and Uncle Albert, until Del Boy later went ‘upmarket’ and purchased a Capri Ghia.

On Screen Cars can be seen as part of a visit to the whole Beaulieu attraction, which also includes the National Motor Museum, World of Top Gear, Beaulieu Abbey, and Palace House and gardens. Visit www.beaulieu.co.uk for further information.

Austin 7 National Rally Attracts Entries from far and Wide - National Motor Museum, Beaulieu

The fifty-second National Rally of pre-war Austin 7 motor cars, organised by the 750 Motor Club, takes place at the home of the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, Hampshire on Sunday 6th July.
Austin 7 special-bodied ‘Camionette’

This year’s theme is ‘Commercial Austin 7s’ and some wonderful examples will join the hundreds of vehicles coming from far and wide to join the display. The 750 Motor Club has even heard from an owner in Spain who is bringing his commercial A7 to the rally!

Austins form the core of the event, but all tax-exempt historic vehicles of all makes are invited to attend and will have a designated parking area on the rally field. Following their highly successful attendance at the 2013 event, the Tacot Club Calaisen from France will be arriving en-masse with a fascinating collection of mainly-Gallic vehicles.

For anyone contemplating ownership of a pre-war motor car, the Austin 7 is an ideal starting point. Information and advice can be readily found, the 750 Motor Club offering a free ‘mentoring’ service to those who seek guidance. The Austin 7 is relatively inexpensive to acquire, attracts free historic vehicle road tax, does not require an annual MOT, is easy to maintain, and specialist insurers provide excellent value insurance policies. A thriving network of suppliers ensures that spare parts are always available at reasonable cost.

The National Austin 7 Rally is an ideal day out for all the family. Beaulieu is home to a wide variety of attractions and the rally entry ticket also gives access to historic Palace House and Gardens as well as the National Motor Museum with its two new displays, For Britain & For The Hell Of It, featuring iconic Land Speed Record Cars and The Motorcycle Story, taking you on a journey through motorcycling history.

The event is sponsored by Warranty Direct and RH Specialist Insurance. Full details and entry forms can be found on the website: http://www.750mc.co.uk/austin7.

Help Beaulieu Break a Record!

Help Beaulieu Break a Record
Best known for its collection of iconic cars, the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu is putting out an appeal for cars of a different kind. As part of a Guinness World Record attempt for the Longest Line of Toy Cars, Beaulieu is asking for donations of toy cars, in order to smash the current record of 9,795, set in Guatemala last December.

The attempt will be held in the grounds of the Beaulieu attraction with a continuous line, one kilometre long, of at least 10,000 cars placed end to end, starting and finishing inside the National Motor Museum. After the record attempt, the toys will be sold and the proceeds donated to Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices for children and young adults.

Sainsbury’s is supporting the appeal, with collection boxes in 21 stores in the South coast region from Monday 10th February, to enable their customers to donate toy cars. Local schools are also joining in the appeal and there will be boxes in Naomi House charity shops.

Sainsbury’s spokesman, Phil Bridgwater, said:” This is an ideal event for our customers to get involved in, supporting a charity everyone can relate to. Sainsbury’s customers never fail to rise to a challenge and I have no doubt they will speed their way to the number of cars required.”

To qualify, donated cars can be of any type designed to be played with by hand including cars, lorries, tractors and quad bikes, but not large enough for children to sit on.

Toy cars can also be donated by visitors to the Beaulieu attraction and children who bring two or more toy cars during February half-term and on the day of the record attempt, can enter for half price. The attempt will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, 5th May.

Katie Hamilton for Naomi House said:  We would like to thank Beaulieu, Sainsbury’s and other sponsors of this Guinness World Record attempt. We are sure everyone will want to be part of it and are delighted that Naomi House will benefit.”

Waste management company, Biffa has provided all the collection boxes and Chandler’s Ford based Quayline Digital has printed 22,000 advertising leaflets free of charge.

Beaulieu's Hunt For Car Stars of TV and Film

Mr Bean's Mini
The 'flying' Ford Anglia from 'Harry Potter
and the Chamber of Secrets'

Reliant Regal van from Only Fools and Horses
The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu is on a mission searching for new vehicles to join its popular On Screen Cars exhibition. If you own or know of a vehicle that has starred in a television programme or film and you would like to see it displayed alongside other car stars in the exhibition, then Beaulieu wants to hear from you!

All vehicles which have been ‘on screen’ are welcome to be put forward for consideration, from TV cop cars, to children’s favourites. Any new vehicles added to the exhibition will be joining a famous cast of vehicles from a number of different television shows and films.
The family of Harry Potter star, Rupert Grint, have loaned the Harry Potter ‘flying’ Ford Anglia for the display, which was used during the making of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In the film, the enchanted flying car is stolen a number of times by Ron Weasley, on one occasion to rescue his friend Harry Potter from the Dursleys’ house, and on another to return to Hogwarts after the gate to Platform 9¾ is sealed by house elf Dobby.

In real life, the car’s history has been almost as exciting! In 2005 the car was stolen, but was later recovered after being dumped by the thieves, probably due to the media interest surrounding it. The Grint family bought it after this incident and loaned it to Beaulieu for display.

Sharing the spotlight with the Anglia is TV favourite, Mr Bean’s lime green mini. This particular car was used in the character's third series and made its first television appearance on 1st January 1991.

Another TV favourite on display is Del Boy’s beloved Trotter Van. Possibly the nation's most famous three-wheel vehicle, this Regal van (mistakenly referred to as a Robin) featured in the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses. It was the sole transport for the Trotter family of Del, Rodney, Grandad and Uncle Albert, until Del Boy later went ‘upmarket’ and purchased a Capri Ghia.

To put a vehicle forward for consideration, please contact the PR Department, either by emailing pr@beaulieu.co.uk or calling 01590 614603.

On Screen Cars can be seen as part of a visit to the whole Beaulieu attraction, which also includes the National Motor Museum, World of Top Gear, Beaulieu Abbey, and Palace House and gardens. Visit www.beaulieu.co.ukfor further information.

Simply Super Simply Smart

A colourful collection of Smart cars brightened up the Beaulieu Arena in the grounds of the National Motor Museum on Remembrance Sunday for the second ever Simply Smart rally.

All Smart car owners were invited to drive their quirky motors to Beaulieu, display their vehicles in its picturesque parkland, and enjoy all the delights of the attraction, whilst getting the chance to meet other like-minded enthusiasts and admire their vehicles.

A wonderful variety of models were on show, from the more everyday Fortwos and City-Coupés to the sportier looking Roadsters and Crossblades, decorated with all sorts of colourful graphics and designs.

Decorated Smart Car dashboard
This event was again well supported by owners’ club, SmartManiacs, with a large number of their members attending. At the club’s request, the event is always held around the time of Remembrance Sunday, with this year’s rally taking place on the day itself. As a fitting tribute and a mark of respect, Sue and Peter Taylor brought along their ‘Poppy’ Smart car, decorated with red poppy graphics, to display in the Front Hall of the National Motor Museum for the day.

The whole Beaulieu attraction also took part in a two minute silence at 11am, which visitors were invited to join.

People's Choice winner Sue Toogood
with her pink Smart Fortwo
Throughout the day, visitors to Beaulieu were given the opportunity to vote for their favourite Smart car on display in the People’s Choice Award. The winner was Sue Toogood from Bargoed, South Wales with her striking Smart Fortwo Passion in an eye-catching pearlescent pink. Sue, who has owned the vehicle for seven years, was presented with a special 60th anniversary edition Beaulieu Trophy by Beaulieu’s Events Co-ordinator, Thomas Reinhold. Sue uses the vehicle to help raise money for charity and has participated in the annual Pink Car Rally five times to raise funds for the Little Princess Trust, a charity devoted to helping young cancer sufferers cope with hair loss.

Sue and four finalists drove in a cavalcade through the grounds of the Beaulieu attraction, to Lord Montagu’s family home, Palace House, where they displayed their cars for a unique photo opportunity.

Simply Smart is part of a growing calendar of Simply rallies which has expanded to include a wide variety of themes covering many makes and models. All Simply rallies are run and organised by Beaulieu and take place in the grounds of the National Motor Museum.

This event was sponsored by specialist motor insurance broker Adrian Flux. The next Simply Smart rally is scheduled for Sunday 10th November 2013. Further information will be available from www.beaulieuevents.co.uk nearer the time.

Beaulieu Goes Classic Car Crazy For Simply Classics, Sunday 26th August 2012

As part of its exciting event-filled August Bank Holiday Weekend, Beaulieu is looking forward to welcoming a host of classic cars to its picturesque parkland on Sunday 26th August for Simply Classics.

The rally, now in its second year, is open to all pre-1986 classic car and bikes, whether concours or classic. Owners have the opportunity to bring their vehicles to participate in the event, meet other like-minded enthusiasts, admire their vehicles and listen to the jazz band playing sets throughout the day.

Visitors to Beaulieu on that day will be given the opportunity to vote for their favourite vehicle on display in the People’s Choice Awards. In the afternoon a cavalcade of the most popular vehicles will take place around the Beaulieu attraction, and the winning vehicle and runner up will be announced in a prize-giving ceremony. The winning vehicle owner will receive a coveted special 60th anniversary edition Beaulieu Trophy, and the runner up, a trophy sponsored by Beaulieu-based Vintage Tyres in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

Classic car owners can also choose to take part in the concours competition, which will take place in the early afternoon, by applying in advance, either by filling in the application form, available at www.beaulieuevents.co.uk  and returning it to tom.reinhold@beaulieu.co.uk or by telephoning 01590 614610.

One is a Packard-Bentley, affectionately nicknamed “Mavis”, which boasts a 42 litre Packard V12 engine. Its matt black finish and v-shaped grille make this a stunning vehicle well worth seeing. It will be accompanied by a Napier Bentley – a 1968 one-off special build vintage racing car with a 24 litre Napier Sea Lion W12 aeroplane engine. The engine has three banks of four very large stub exhausts, one of which points straight out of the side of the car. When it’s started up, the sound is likened to a World War I bi-plane!

Participants can also enjoy all the delights of the Beaulieu attraction, including the museum’s one-year-only exhibition, BOND IN MOTION, showcasing 50 vehicles from the James Bond films, which includes arguably one of the most iconic and beautiful classics of all time, the Aston Martin DB5, from Goldeneye.

On Sunday 13th May, prepare to see red at Beaulieu, as hundreds of Italian vehicle owners are invited to flock to Beaulieu to show off their stylish motors, with many likely to be in the trademark ‘race red’ traditionally reserved for Italian racing cars. This promises to be a great day out, and a fantastic opportunity for families and enthusiasts alike to admire the fine Italian craftsmanship and beautiful designs that make Italian motors so unique.

Owners of Italian vehicles, both classic and new, are invited to join in with the event by coming to Beaulieu in their cars. All Italian marques, from Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Fiat, to Lancia, Maserati and Lamborghini are welcome.

On the day, 10 vehicles from the whole Italian gathering will be chosen to join a Simply Italian cavalcade around the attraction, and one of these selected cars will be the lucky winner of the People’s Choice Award and a special edition Beaulieu Trophy. There will also be a runner up trophy presented by Vintage Tyres, who are this year celebrating their 50th anniversary.
In addition to individuals arriving in their vehicles on the day, some Italian stallions of the motoring world will be out in force at the event, including Meridien Motors, who will be displaying a selection of full-blooded Italian vehicles. Expect to see the full range of classy Alfa Romeos, a number of gleaming Abarths, and a Ferrari and Maserati that won’t fail to stir up a fiery passion for all things Italian.

Following on from the inaugural success of the first ever Simply Italian rally in 2011, this year’s event is gearing up to be even bigger and better. To add to the atmosphere, this year Beaulieu will be taking on an Italian theme for the day, with Italian style decorations and flags, and food inspired by Italy being served in the Brabazon Restaurant.

A number of trade stands will also be present at the event, giving visitors the opportunity to buy parts and accessories for their Italian marque vehicles.

For entrants arriving on the day in their Italian vehicle and joining the event on the Beaulieu parkland, individual ticket prices are £10 per adult and £5 per child. COME TO SIMPLY FORD AT BEAULIEU FOR A SIMPLY FANTASTIC DAY OUT! SUNDAY 6TH MAY 2012

On Sunday 6th May the third annual Simply Ford rally will be gearing up in the grounds of the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. All Ford vehicle owners are invited to bring their vehicle to Beaulieu on the day and become part of this popular event.

All models are welcome, but this year, the Ford Cortina will be taking centre-stage, as 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of this model. In celebration, all Cortinas that arrive at Simply Ford will be given pride of place in the Beaulieu Arena, creating a fantastic display of one of Ford’s most successful family cars.

The Ford Motor Company will be bringing along a small selection of vehicles to the event, including a Ford Cortina, in recognition of the model’s anniversary, and a stunning Ford GT. Also on display will be the Ford Supervan 3.  Built on a Ford C100 race car chassis and originally powered by a mid-mounted Ford-Cosworth 650bhp ‘HB’ F1 engine, Supervan 3 first saw the light of day in 1995 when it was displayed at the motor show in Birmingham.  Its top speed is estimated at around 150mph, with acceleration that would not disgrace many sports supercars.

On the day, 10 vehicles from the whole Ford gathering will be chosen to join a Simply Ford cavalcade around the attraction, and one of these selected cars will be the lucky winner of the People’s Choice Award and a Beaulieu Trophy.

As well as being a great opportunity to view hundreds of Ford vehicles and meet up with other like-minded enthusiasts, visitors can also browse a number of trade stands selling Ford-related parts and accessories.

New for this year, weekend camping is now available to event participants arriving in Ford vehicles. Camping must be booked in advance by telephoning 01590 612888 and costs £7 per person per night.

For entrants arriving on the 6th May in their Ford and joining the event on the Beaulieu parkland, entry prices are adult £10 and child £5. To book tickets in advance, please visit www.beaulieushop.co.uk or telephone 01590 612888, which you can also call for information on group or club entry. For all Ford-related trade stand enquiries, telephone 01590 614614. All other visitors should enter Beaulieu via the main Reception at normal admission prices.
Entry into the Beaulieu parkland with your Ford is from 9am and catering will be available.
Admission to the event includes entry to the whole Beaulieu attraction; the National Motor Museum and its exciting BOND IN MOTION exhibition showcasing 50 original James Bond vehicles, World of Top Gear, On Screen Cars, Beaulieu Abbey, and Palace House and gardens.

Three years ago Simply Ford was the first ever Simply rally to take place at the Beaulieu attraction and proved to be incredibly popular.
